I’m Mark Diaz, a criminal defense attorney who has spent nearly three decades standing between my clients and the State of Texas.
Being charged with a crime is overwhelming. Most people facing arrest or prosecution have never been inside a courtroom, let alone navigated the criminal justice system. For me, this work is familiar ground. I’ve handled cases across the full spectrum of criminal charges, and there is very little I haven’t seen. That experience allows me to stay calm, focused, and strategic when my clients need it most.

Criminal defense is not something I dabble in. It is the sole focus of my practice and has been my life’s work since I began practicing law. I am a graduate of Thurgood Marshall School of Law and earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Houston. I am admitted to practice in all Texas state courts as well as the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. For nearly 30 years, I have aggressively defended the rights of individuals throughout Texas, including Galveston County and surrounding areas.
There is no shortage of defense attorneys, and every person accused of a crime has a choice. Some lawyers compete on price. Others compete on volume, taking on more cases than they can realistically handle. That approach has never been mine. When your freedom, future, and reputation are on the line, the quality of your defense matters.
When you hire me, you work directly with me. My clients have my personal cell phone number, because questions, emergencies, and concerns don’t always happen during business hours. You won’t be handed off to a junior associate or lost in a system where your case is one of dozens on a crowded docket. From arrest through resolution, I remain personally involved and accessible.
I take a direct, no-nonsense approach to criminal defense. I prepare every case thoroughly, challenge the prosecution aggressively, and look for opportunities to resolve matters favorably both inside and outside the courtroom. Whether a case calls for negotiation, motion practice, or trial, my focus is always on protecting my client’s rights and pursuing the strongest possible outcome under the circumstances.
I understand that trust is earned, not assumed. My goal is to make sure every client feels informed, prepared, and confident in the defense strategy being used on their behalf. What may feel like unfamiliar and frightening territory to you is work I do every day.
